Beer #182 - Three Weavers / Knotty DIPA

Beer #182 - W/C 20 August 2018

BREWERY // Three Weavers became the first craft brewery in Inglewood (California) in 2013 and their Kickstarter campaign the following year helped them set up an awesome, community focussed tasting room. Promoting a positive sense of community was the cornerstone to why Lynne Weaver founded the brewery. They sponsor non-profit organisations and support local artists. In just a few years, Three Weavers (named for Lynne's 3 daughters) has become one of the largest independent breweries in the region and brewmaster Alexandra Nowell's beers have garnered medals at the Great American Beer Festival, Beer World Cup and others.

BEER // The Double (or Imperial) IPA is a relatively new style born in America to sate the never ending appetite for hops. The big malt backbone and increased alcohol supports and balances huge amounts of hop aroma, flavour and bitterness. As you might expect from a beer named Knotty, there is a lot of resinous pine. Hops are in no short supply with the brew including Bravo, Chinook, Centennial, Azacca, and Citra hops, then dry hopped with Citra, Azacca, Crystal, Chinook, and Simcoe hops. Besides the dank pine, there's also grapefruit citrus, tropical fruit and a solid bitterness which is matched by malt sweetness and lots of body.
