Beer #165 - Duncan's / Big George

Beer #165 - W/C 23 April 2018

BREWERY // George Duncan's story is similar to that of many talented brewers- after years of brewing fantastic beers in his kitchen, he listened to his friends/fans and started a brewing company to share his beers with a wider audience. After two and a half years of contract brewing, Duncan's recently opened a dedicated brewery in Paraparaumu on the beautiful Kapiti Coast which has a cellar door (also staffed by George). We can't wait to visit. Duncan's won 4 medals in the last Brewers Guild of New Zealand Awards which is very impressive for a brewery that had only been open for a matter of months. When not brewing or pouring beer, you may spot George at various beer events- he's the guy with a huge grin and a sea-captain beard.

BEER // Double (or Imperial) IPA's are one of the most popular styles among craft beer drinkers. Big is the key word that differentiates a good DIPA from an English or American IPA. The big malt bill makes for a higher alcohol content with additional body to support a heavy dosing of hops. Big George is an excellent, and very drinkable, example of the style. It is packed with Ekuanot and Citra hops which give it citrus, grapefruit notes and dank, resin bitterness.
