Beer #166 - Duncan's / Yum Yum

Beer #166 - W/C 30 April 2018

BREWERY // George Duncan's story is similar to that of many talented brewers- after years of brewing fantastic beers in his kitchen, he listened to his friends/fans and started a brewing company to share his beers with a wider audience. After two and a half years of contract brewing, Duncan's recently opened a dedicated brewery in Paraparaumu on the beautiful Kapiti Coast which has a cellar door (also staffed by George). We can't wait to visit. Duncan's won 4 medals in the last Brewers Guild of New Zealand Awards which is very impressive for a brewery that had only been open for a matter of months. George will be pouring beers for his adoring fans at the Beer Jerk Bar this Friday.

BEER // Not so long ago, George and his wife had a wonderful time travelling around the Land of the Rising Sun. They drank beautifully executed clean, fresh, dry lagers and aromatic yuzu liqueurs and it was inevitable that inspiration would strike. The yuzu is an ugly, tart Japanese citrus which has a unique flavour somewhere between a grapefruit and a lemon. They are only harvested once a year and a centuries-old custom is to bathe with yuzus on the winter solstice. Yum Yum is a light-bodied, well rounded lager and the citrus addition means it pairs beautifully with food. Or a hot bath.
