Beer #53 - W/C 29 February 2016
BREWERY //
"Never compromise with taste"
To Øl are Tobias & Tore, two former high school students of Mikkel Borg Bjergsø (who went on to found Mikkeller) whose commitment to flavour saw the brewery voted 9th in the World on RateBeer in 2014. Their first beers were brewed alongside Mikkel in the school kitchen between 10pm and 6am on weekdays. We actually cannot think of a better teenage hobby and rue the countless hours wasted in guitar lessons and on muddy rugby pitches. All of their beers are unfiltered and unpasteurized and bottle conditioned. To Øl put 5-10% oats into every beer they make and claim that "is the secret behind the sexy haziness, body and mouthfeel, as well as good foam".
TASTING NOTES //
Don't drink this beer with a cold- your nose needs to be fully functioning to savour the aromas of lime leaf, tea, tangerine and lychee in Releaf Me. This is a Belgian style blonde ale infused with fresh Thai lime leaves. The Belgian yeast is what gives the bubblegum, banana and slightly spicy aroma and taste. The aromatic lime flavour gives way to the grassy bitterness of hops. A founding principle for to ol was to 'give beer some youth'. They have certainly succeeded here and I can't imagine what my granddad would think of this beer. We have a feeling this will be a love it / hate it kind of beer among Beer Jerks and are looking forward to seeing your reviews this week.
