BREWERY // George Duncan's story is similar to that of many talented brewers- after years of brewing fantastic beers in his kitchen, he listened to his friends/fans and started a brewing company to share his beers with a wider audience. After two and a half years of contract brewing, Duncan's recently opened a dedicated brewery in Paraparaumu on the beautiful Kapiti Coast which has a cellar door (also staffed by George). We can't wait to visit. Last month Duncan's won 4 medals in the Brewers Guild of New Zealand Awards which is very impressive for a brewery that had only been open for a matter of months. When not brewing or pouring beer, you may spot George at various beer events- he's the guy with a huge grin and a sea-captain beard.

BEER // Imperial (aka Double) Stouts are a favourite of beer connoisseurs the world over with the style being over represented in most 'top 100 beers' lists. There is good reason for this- double stouts are absolutely delicious and many brewers see it as a source of pride to have a great one in their beer arsenal. The mysteriously named Umbra (watch the video to find out what it means) is an excellent example of the style. It is an amplified version of Duncan's regular stout. This is a big, rich and bold beer which may not be for everyone. It has bucketloads of roasted malt flavour as well as molasses and chocolate which is underlined with a solid bitterness. This is a complex sipper
