Beer #48 - Aurora / Modern Times

Beer #48 - W/C 25 January 2016

BREWERY //
Modern Times opened in San Diego a couple of years ago as a supergroup of Californian brewers with a little help from Kickstarter. All of their recipes are listed online and the brewers positively encourage home brewers to tinker with them. So far, so Modern. The reason Modern Times caught our attention is that they make marvellous beer which is not constrained by the restrictions of a particular ‘style’. Also because they have a mural of Michael Jackson and Bubbles made from 10,900 Post-Its on the wall of their tasting room…

TASTING NOTES //
A hop by any other name would taste as delicious. Experimental hop #07270 joins the snappier named Equinox in Aurora making it a showcase for new wave American hops. There is a lot of complexity to this beer with pine and orange notes from the dank, bitter hops. The spicy rye gives the beer a rich red hue and marries with the other malts to add a caramel, bready backbone. We can't get enough of Aurora.
