Small Gods & Black Sands / Mr. Vodnik - 5% 440ml

Mr. Vodník is a Polotmavý - a full flavoured and complex Czech Amber Lager. A rounded base of Munich malt is supported by selected speciality malts to bring notes of brown toast and digestive biscuits with a slight ruby highlight. A touch of sweetness from the malt is offset by a clean and snappy pilsner style finish from the use of classic Saaz hops making it a delicious and easy drinking session beer. It was layered for over 4 months for crisp clarity of flavour and the speciality malts have really come to the forefront during that period. Na zdraví!

We're excited about drinking lots of Mr. Vodník at Small Gods Taproom because it is such a perfect sessionable beer. So we put most of it into kegs and have very very limited can stock available - only about 20 12-packs. So act fast if you don't want to miss out.

We can't believe it has taken us so long to collaborate with our good friends at Black Sands. It was brilliant to work with Craig and Matt there to pull together this rare beer style.

It’s a peaceful afternoon by the shore. You sit in quiet contemplation watching your float, hoping a fish will bite. Ripples in the sullen pondwater cast mesmeric reflections of the sun as it peeks shyly from behind steel-grey clouds. A damp, musty smell is the first indication that you’re not alone. The pungent aroma is trailed by gentle, shuffling footsteps as Mr. Vodník breaks your reverie. He’s an unusual fellow with sallow grey skin, clutching a lidded teacup tightly in a mottled and webbed hand. A pipe bearing years of careful use in its patina pokes out from behind a beard which is matted like beached seaweed and the smoke winds its way in shifting whorls to add to the deep brown stain on the brim of his odd hat. There is an enigmatic gleam in his eye as he arranges himself next to you and waits, almost companionably watching the water. The people of the town are familiar with him by now, and have taught all the local children not to go swimming alone lest their souls be added to his collection. So he waits, bored. It’s almost time for supper and the market is closed so you know there is only one thing to be done to keep him occupied, lest he start looking for souls more proactively. You take a pinch of your own tobacco and sprinkle it gently into the water. "Here is your tobacco, Mr. Vodník, now give me a fish.".
