BREWERY // Over the past few years Deep Creek beers have earned their way into the hearts of beer fans on Auckland's North Shore and Waiheke Island thanks to their brewpubs in Brown's Bay, Orewa and Oneroa. Recently, their beers have received much wider acclaim with them being awarded Champion Small International Brewery at the Australian International Beer Awards a couple of weeks ago. As well as the core range, they regularly brew seasonal and experimental beers. Their three rotating ranges (Lupulin Effect, Steam Funk & Nero) see new releases in a range of styles being released every month.
BEER // Lupulin Effect is the name Deep Creek give to their family experimental IPA's which are released each month. By our count there have been over a dozen so far and we've seen a gin & lime DIPA, a fresh-hopped Nelson Sauvin IPA, a bourbon & citrus IPA and the legendary Hoppy McHopface - a DIPA made with hop oil. Germany is not known for IPAs but it is known for hops with hop gardens having been cultivated for brewing for around a thousand years. Today Germany has more hop growing acres than any other country and is at the cutting edge of hop development. The Hop Research Center in Hüll, Bavaria has been doing just that for over 90 years. The three hops used in Wunderbier were released in 2012 as Germany keeps up with the current taste for the bold, aromatic varieties emerging from New World growers. Mandarina is very citrusy with distinct tangerine flavours, Hüll Melon has a strawberry and honeydew aroma while Hallertau Blanc is floral and fruity with passionfruit, grapefruit and lemongrass flavours.
