This is: Boatrocker - Barrel Aged
Boatrocker / Gaston 10.6% - 500ml Bottle
One of the first beers to come out of our barrel program in 2015 was Gaston, a big chardonnay barrel aged Saison with Brett Brux.
This time around we aged Gaston in ex-fortified Riesling barrels and used a blend of Brett Brux as well as Brett Clausenii, the latter imparting wonderful tropical fruit notes which complement the classic barnyard character of B.Brux. Due to the nature of the wild yeast and high alcohol, this beer has excellent ageing potential, much like the gentlemen after whom this beer is names, Gaston Pamvert, the cheeky French great-uncle of our founder.
Boatrocker / House White 6.2% - 500ml Bottle
Since 2013 we have been working with wild yeasts and barrels to develop own unique culture that provides complexity, funk and most importantly - deliciousness! We call these yeasts and bacteria our house cultures and the outcome is House White; a blend of 12, 18 and 24 month old barrel aged wild ales from our own unique house yeast strain cultivated over many years.
Expect prominent Brettanomyces character, puckering dry acidity with a little funk! Lemon sherbet and chardonnay like fruitiness with plenty of barrel character too.
Boatrocker / House Red 6.2% - 500ml Bottle
Our House Red continues to evolve, gaining further complexity with blending session. The Soléra method we employ takes approximately 2/3 of the barrel for blending (sometimes more and sometimes less depending on blend ratios) and then topping up the remainder of the barrel with fresh wort.
Our house culture has so many organisms in it now, it is consistently creating complex and delicious ales after 12 months, sometimes 10 months. This complexity only increases as it gets older, up to a certain point... Then the acetic acid kicks in, which we consider essential for any Flanders red. As the oldest barrel program in Australia, our aged acetic barrels are now 8 years old, and a small amount goes a long way, sometimes 20L in 1000L is enough to make a significant difference.
Boatrocker / House Rose 6.2% - 500ml Bottle
We've teamed once again up with winemaker Matt Campbell (Crittenden Estate and The Lost Plot) to create something quite delicious
We have had the House Red and House White for many years now, showcasing our wild ales in an irreverent 'winey' way... We'd wanted to make a House Rosé for some time, so when Matt suggested some spent Mourvédre grapes to get some wine character and colour, we jumped at the opportunity.
Boatrocker / Funky Monkey 6.2% - 500ml Bottle
Funky Monkey is an Australian Wild Ale aged in our ex-Ramjet barrels. We were wondering what flavours and characteristics would be imparted in our wild ale by fermenting barrels that housed our big imperial stout, Ramjet.
The result? Plenty of wild funk, but also notes of roast malt make their way onto the palate and aroma. A worthwhile experiment if ever there was. Why Funky Monkey? The founder’s son wanted to name a beer, so the result is Funky Monkey.
