Beer #349 - Urbanaut / Living Beer
BREWERY // We love all our brewers equally and definitely don't have favourites. Urbanaut have a very special place in our heart though and Beer Jerk used to share a building with them when they launched in 2017. The original team are Bruce, Simon and Thomas who became friends during their days at Rangitikei College and they've been joined by a fantastically talented crew over the years. Brewer Bruce honed his craft working with legendary breweries Fullers and Meantime in London while Simon and Thomas ran a property development company so their combined skills came in handy when converting an old props hire warehouse into a sparkling Kingsland brewery & taproom at the end of the Auckland Beer Mile. Hot Tip: this weekend they are launching a burger arm - Burgernaut.
BEER // The concept for this beer was driven by natural wine loving Urbanaut Guy who worked with Saison maestro head brewer Dave and their in-house aesthete Mookie to bring it to life. This second release in the Living Beer series has a lovely soft body and was lightly kettle soured to give it a lively zestiness which is the perfect foil for the mouth-party created by the addition of *deep breath* green tea, lemon zest, jasmine, lemongrass and turmeric. It's fresh, floral and there are lots of flavour layers to discover that compliment one another beautifully. It's capped by a touch of sweetness from multiflora Manuka honey which ties up this really unique can conditioned beer well. This is a great beer for food pairing and we recommend matching it to a fatty dish.
