Beer #122 - Mythica / Incubus
Beer #122 - W/C 26 June 2017
BREWERY // Mythica is one of the newest New Zealand breweries on the scene having released their first beers just 6 months ago. Geoff is the brewer and the rest of the team is made up of his brewing mate Kerry and their respective partners- Lia and Camila. While Geoff spends his time working on Mythica, the other members of the team have day jobs as scientists. When thinking about how the brand could stand out on shelves, it seemed natural to go with a mythical, fantasy theme. Their 350L pilot brewery allows them to create experimental and novel beers with the core range being contract brewed.
BEER // If you were paying attention last week, you've probably figured out that an Incubus is a male version of a Succubus - a demon in male form who seduces and makes love to women as they sleep. Which could be a convenient cover story for medieval pregnancies out of wedlock. This Red IPA is beautifully balanced with malt taking the lead with lots of caramel and biscuit flavours with a touch of spice on the finish. The Citra and Nelson Sauvin hops add bitterness as well as a tropical fruitiness with gooseberry and citrus notes. Like the Succubus before it, Incubus is an awfully more-ish beer.
