Beer #49 - W/C 1 February 2016
Over the past few years Deep Creek beers have earned their way into the hearts of beer fans on Auckland's North Shore and Waiheke Island thanks to their brewpubs in Brown's Bay, Orewa and Oneroa. Deep Creek are enthusiastic about making delicious, flavour fuelled beers. As well as the core range, they regularly brew seasonal and experimental beers and we are pretty excited to taste the beers which will be coming out of their barrel ageing programme. We love that Deep Creek are so involved with their local community- next week they begin hosting yoga sessions in the garden bar. Sadly we have conflicting plans so won't make it...
TASTING NOTES //
There are a lot of Pale Ales around. In our opinion, in order to stand out from the crowd a good Pale Ale needs to pretty special and impeccably made. Fortunately head brewer Hamish Ward (also of Isthmus Brewing) really knows his stuff. Lotus is a favourite at the three Deep Creek pubs where the vast majority of it is drank. It is not an overly complex beer but it is a delicious one- bitter, crisp and refreshing with more-ish floral and citrus hops. It works beautifully with sunshine, rock music and a whole variety of cuisine. We wish we could have put a few more in your box, you might need to head to one of their pubs for a second glass.
