Beer #14 - Yabai Yabai / Baird Beer

 Beer #14 - W/C 1 June 2015

BREWERY //

“Balance. Character. Complexity.”

In 2001 Bryan and Sayuri Baird opened the smallest licensed brewery in Japan with their 30 Litre brewhouse in the fish market of the coastal city of Numazu. Having studied at brewing school in California, the Bairds planned to bring completely new styles of craft beer, or ji-biiru, to Japan. Creating beers using the soft Numazu water and embracing the Japanese value placed upon harmony and craft means that Baird beers represent the best of American and Japanese brewing.

TASTING NOTES //
Yabai-Yabai is an excellent example of everything a Strong Scotch Ale, or 'Wee Heavy', should be. A rich, sweet and warming beer, this opulent ale is perfect for a cool autumnal evening. Predominant flavours from the malt are butterscotch caramel, figs and brown bread. You may also pick up on bittersweet chocolate and a hint of smoke. This is a malt-forward style but you will notice herbal, earthy hop flavours too. The pleasing, long finish is reminiscent of a good sherry.

NOTE- All Baird beers are bottle conditioned meaning there is residual sediment in the bottom of the bottle. Pour your beer slowly into your glass, leaving the dregs and sediment in the bottle.
